Curriculum continued............

........This curriculum is designed to enable the children to achieve the early learning goals by the end of their Reception year.

How we do this
Early Years Practitioners at Sunflowers carefully plan each activity to provide the children with learning opportunities to cover all aspects of The Early Year’s Foundation Stage. The EYFS is focused on helping the children to achieve their early years goals through careful planning informed by observation and assessment of each child using a special book that records the child’s achievements. The Key person then uses information gathered through observation and assessment of the children to plan the next steps for that child and the focussed activities for the group. Nursery Staff ensure that, at all times, they are:

  • Motivating and stimulating the children’s learning abilities, often using play activities.
  • Interacting with and supporting children, providing them with a secure environment to learn.
  • Devising and producing visual aids and teaching resources.
  • Organising learning materials and resources and making imaginative use of resources.
  • Assisting with the development of children’s personal/social and language abilities.
  • Supporting the development of children’s basic skills, including physical co-ordination, speech and communication.
  • Encouraging children’s mathematical and creative development through stories, songs, games, drawing and imaginative play.
  • Developing children’s curiosity and knowledge.
  • Working with others to plan and co-ordinate work.
  • Sharing knowledge gained with other practitioners and parents.
  • Observing, assessing and recording each child’s progress.
  • Attending in-service training.
  • Ensuring the health and safety of children and staff is maintained during all activities, both inside and outside the nursery.
  • Keeping up to date with changes in the curriculum and developments in best practice.
